Travel through colorful landscapes, timbres and dreams, deep into the world of Kimyan Law during his performances at the Sound Scene Festival 2025.
Sound Scene returns to the Hirshhorn Museum with the theme CONNECTED, and a variety of artists from around the globe to celebrate sound through multi-sensory art installations.
Kimyan Law is part of the NASOM 2025/2026 program. His participation in Sound Scene is made possible by the support of ACF DC.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kimyan Law is a Congolese-Austrian musician, producer, filmmaker and painter – an interdisciplinary artist which incorporates African instruments, patterns and influences into his music, achieving a rare organic and human quality amongst the cold electronics. Deep explorations into his Congolese roots have led him to create complex mosaics of ancient imagery and sound with modern aesthetics.
With his Live Concert, the songs and their stories transport the listener through colorful sonoric landscapes, timbres and dreams, deep into the world of Kimyan Law. Through drumming, sampling and playing live, the music happens ‘in the moment’, giving the concert a warm and organic quality amongst the often formulaic approaches to performing electronic music.
ABOUT SOUND SCENE
Sound Scene began in 2008 and is still curated by the DC Listening Lounge audio arts collective and is now hosted by the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Sound Scene is an annual, free, two-day event, open to the public. In 2019, Sound Scene broke attendance records for the Hirshhorn museum attracting more than 14,000 attendees over 2 days. Sound Scene celebrates sound through multi-sensory art installations including sculptural, headphone-based and multi-channel interactive exhibits. The live stage features performances of dance, music, and spoken word. Sound Scene’s small group workshops invite audiences to explore acoustics, beat-making, sound production, sonic meditation, group improvisation, and more. Sound Scene features the creative work of artists from across the world.
ABOUT NASOM
The New Austrian Sound of Music – in short NASOM – is a biannual sponsorship program by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) promoting emerging Austrian and Austria-based musicians performing abroad.
The aim of NASOM is to offer support for international performances of promising young talents with the help of a global network of embassies, cultural forums and consulates over a period of two year. A further objective of NASOM is to draw more attention to the fact that Austrian music – beyond the traditional – is as vibrant, modern and culturally diverse as ever.
Every two years, the young artists accepted for this program are selected in cooperation with the organization mica – music austria and an expert commission. Participants of the sponsorship program are chosen from the genres classical, jazz, global, contemporary and pop/electronic music.
