With recordings and live performances of Schubert, Mahler and Wolf Lieder, Thomas Bagwell, pianist and assistant conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, and tenor Scott Murphree trace the history of Lieder, its evolution, and the elements and characteristics that distinguish this most subtle art form.
