There is a book just coming out. "Putnam Camp" (Sigmund Freud, James Jackson Putnam and the Purpose of American Psychology) which has a very interesting account of Freud's only visit to the United States.This was to a Putnam family camp in a relatively isolated part of the Adirondack Mountains. His first brush with a porcupine is really amusing.
