Translating Franz Kafka’s Vision of America Talk and reading by Mark Harman
Mark Harman is currently Chair of Modern Languages and Professor of German and English at Elizabethtown College. In an illustrated talk on Kafka and America and a reading of excerpts from his recently published new translation of Amerika: The Missing Person, Mark Harman will not only analyze how Franz Kafka, who never traveled outside Europe, came to write a novel set in America, but also address challenges he faced in translating Kafka anew and in reintroducing this novel to a new generation of readers.
